Dean Winter today announced he will run for Kingborough Council at this year’s local government elections.

Mr Winter is a 29 year old Executive Officer at TASICT, Tasmania’s peak body for ICT sector.

“I lived in Kingborough for the first 20 years of my life and have recently moved back to Kingston Beach after getting married.

“I’ve been interested in local government for a while now. I love the area, it’s where I grew up and I think I can make a positive contribution.

“I am running because I think I have the right mix of energy, enthusiasm and experience to achieve some really good results for Kingborough residents.”

Mr Winter said he wanted to use his position within the ICT sector to further job opportunities for young people in Kingborough.

Specifically, he named the proposed APX-Central undersea fibre cable as an economic opportunity Kingborough should take advantage of.

“I don’t think it matters what level of Government you’re working in, creating jobs must be the number one priority.

“It is difficult to quantify just how big this opportunity is for Tasmania. If Kingborough was able to have the cable land here it could mean the construction of datacentres and attraction of big, global IT business to the area.”
